American History

We Get Letters:

On Thomas Jefferson's birthday, 115 seventh and eighth grade students presented "Tall Tom Jefferson." It was a great success-primarily because the show is not the least' bit corny, the music is delightful, and the open format allows
unlimited participation .
... this was my first school musical. I'm both glad and afraid that I started with the best!

"...We use The Brave and the Bold every year with our study unit of exploration and migration. It is a play that can be done at any time - it's the basis of All America - and our kids have such fun doing it."
THERESA L. MADDEN
Kirkland, Washington

. . A fascinating musical experience! My elementary children can actually divert from a book into music and song and relive the history of the past.
SISTER M. CONCEPTA
St. Mary's School, Ware, Mass.

The academic teachers in the audience were dumbfounded that the children could learn so much information through music . . . they were the same students they had been unable to teach to read and spell with any degree of accuracy.
DELORES WILCOX
McKinley Elementary, East Chicago, Ind.

. . Our fourth and fifth year choir presented "The Brave And The Bold" for a Columbus Day program and loved every minute of it. Too often we teachers have difficulty "selling music" to students, but this is music they identify with-as if it were written especially for them.
LUCILLE BARKEEN
Western Hills School, Wheat Ridge, Colo .

... As far as the value of your music is concerned, it is fascinating, interesting, and impossible not to sing enthusiastically. The kids loved it and sang their hearts out. We used it in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 . . . the teachers in our school used it in History and English classes and raved about it.

We are really sold on your productions, because the students learn so much and enjoy it at the same time. Discipline problems simply vanish because the students are so interested in what they are doing.
MARY ALICE BOWMAN
Boones Mill Elementary, Boones Mill, Va.

. . an impressive historical musical, "Our Country Tis Of Thee," involving 1,000 students throughout Sangamon County . . . It places young people in the spotlight-and rightfully so-because the future is theirs, and the future of the nation will depend to a great extent upon their pride in this country's heritage.

Following a highly successful performance of "Tall Tom Jefferson" please rush forty additional copies of the music book for the children in our elementary chorus who have saved their own money to own their own copy.

Our presentation was so well received and it was a great educational experience for our students. We are deeply grateful to Ruth Roberts for offering us a moving musical experience.

Your materials are extremely conducive to the objectives I have in mind for my school music program. They lend themselves to many avenues of thought and creativity for the entire district. It also gives the music program a chance to work in harmony from elementary through the secondary levels.
JOE P. MOORE, JR.
District Music Specialist Claremont, Calif .

. . . as others have said, never have we given a program with such impact. Since our children all live and go to school at Fort Sam Houston, their parents and teachers were so visibly moved, that teachers told me the career Army men had tears streaming down their faces at the conclusion.
GERALDINE LANE
Choral Director
San Antonio, Tex.

Your productions are totally refreshing to work with. They offer many variations, and above all are educational . . . not just another silly show to show off students to their parents.
PEGGY SIMMONS
Edwin D. Smith School, Dayton, Ohio

"OUR COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE" presented by every student enrolled at Fairlawn Elementary School, Norfolk, Virginia. Nearly 400 children wore costumes, danced, sang, and narrated the program.
